The Weekend:
Girona, in North Eastern Spain is a town that has a French feel to it, the people speak Catalan, but it is definitely Spanish. It has become very popular with tourists since Ryanair started to fly there as its gateway airport to Barcelona, just an hour away. This makes it a relatively cheap place to fly to, and accessible from many UK airports.
Ensure you stay for St.Jordi's Day on 23rd - it is a real celebration in town!

The Race:

Accommodation:
Running Crazy have secured the use of a 4* Hotel right alongside the Start and Finish area - this makes it ideal for security of kit, pre-race preparations, changing and showers. There is an indoor swimming pool.
The Weather:
There is a good chance that North Eastern Spain will be a little warmer than the UK at this time of year. However, the course takes in some of the old town and there are high sided buildings providing a good level of shade. It should also be noted that this is the second wettest month of the year.
Average Sunshine Hours per day: 11
Wet days in a month: 9
Average Temperature: 14 - 21 degrees
Average Monthly Rainfall: 2.2''
Entertainment:
Girona has responded to it's attraction as a tourist town since its airport has become popular. The town is just a few miles inland from the Costa Brava - and resort names such as Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Tossa del Mar may sound familiar. There are many museums in Girona itself including the Dali Museum in Figueres, and the quaint cobbled side streets of the medieval old town will take hours of exploring. The house on the River Onyar dating back to the late middle ages, is one of the best known views of Girona, looking very much like Florence. There will be a pub gathering of all those runners who wish to get together on the Sunday evening. Barcelona is just a 1 hour trip away.
Groups:
As with all 'Running Crazy' events there are incentives for groups of runners. If there are 10 or more there is a prize for the first or last to finish in your group - you choose. For larger groups in addition to the prizes for a group of 20 the organiser goes free. Many runners like to run together and travelling together is so much more fun - it can be cheaper too. Many Clubs make these events their annual outing.
Prices:
You will be very surprised at just how cheap you can book flights, and with the rest of the package taking care of nearly everything else, a 3 night stop for example costs from just £169 for the runner, and just £149 for a spectator. A bargain.
