Barcelona 'San Silvestre' 10K
Sunday 31 December 2023

The Weekend:
Where did you spend your New Year? If you want an unforgettable New Year this year, then this has got to be the weekend for you. A 10K run in a great City and New Year Celebrations all in one.

The Spanish really enjoy their San Silvestre run on New Years Eve - for many it is the start of their festive holiday. In the twilight at 5-30 pm the gun goes and the 8,000 runners get under way. Just 10 minutes later it is dark and you are running along the wide and well lit boulevards of this great City. The 10K course is flat, and takes in many of the sights, and the race itself is very well organised.

You may like to travel on to Nice, France the following weekend for their wonderful promenade 10K race. We will be offering this event too and if a double trip is of interest please ensure you quote 'Barcelona and Nice' in your application.

What is included:

  • Met at Barcelona International Airport by 'Running Crazy Ltd' staff
  • Transfer and return from/to Airport
  • Minimum of 3* Hotel on Bed and Breakfast basis

The Race:
The course is as flat as you can get, and along the wide boulevards of Barcelona. Starting near the Marina area at dusk, it is just 10 minutes before you are running in darkness. Not a problem here on the wide roads with great street lighting. You run up to the Arc de Triomf, and then head down 'Diagonal', perhaps the best known of Barcelona's boulevards, to the sea front. Then it is along the seaside road for 3K, turning right near Port Olympic and doubling back to the finish. This is an ideal course for a PB.

Spectators and Supporters:
We know how important spectators and supporters are at these events. We provide a supporters package at no extra charge. We will advise where on the course are the most advantageous spectator positions, and how to get there easily and in time for the race. More often than not we will take you there and join you for a cup of coffee and have a few surprises planned whilst awaiting the first sight of the runners! All our hotels are comfortably furnished with TV and entertainment facilities - many have spas, pools and saunas too.

Charity Runners:
'Running Crazy' are delighted to welcome runners who are raising sponsorship for registered charities. We know that the great feeling of accomplishment when completing the race, feels even better when you are helping others in to the bargain! See our Run for Charity link to choose a charity that you can help. Many charities listed there will provide special runners packs including sponsorship forms and tips, and also charity running vests. Just contact them with your details and tell them you intend to run with 'Running Crazy' on their behalf. In addition we will provide you with a 'Running Crazy' Certificate confirming your achievement and result, and also a special commemorative prize. Just specify the charity name in your 'Application'.

'Running Crazy Ltd' have secured a minimum of 3 * Hotel accommodation. This is ideal for your pre race preparations, kit security, changing and showering.

Here are the figures:

  • average sunshine hours per day:  5
  • wet days in a month:  10
  • average temperatuire:  7-15 degrees celsius
  • humidity:  70% (at 0700 hrs) 55% (at 14.00 hrs)
  • average monthly rainfall:  2.1"

Barcelona is a great city in which to let your hair down, and has become a number 1 tourist destination. There is so much to see and do in this city that you will find yourself returning again and again and again. No problem - we have races on offer at various times during the year! New Year is a great time to visit and we will provide plenty of ideas of places to go. Places like the Sagrada Familia, FC Barcelona's Nou Camp, the Magic Fountains of Montjuic. In addition we can give you suggestions for party places for the New Year.

This weekend offers a great opportunity for Clubs or Training Partners to get together. It may also make the travel arrangements more convenient and enjoyable. There are discounts available for larger groups (20+), but even a group of just 10 will qualify for an additional prize for the first or last to finish (you choose).

Our all inclusive prices are extremely competitive - from as little as just £149 for the weekend - we know we cannot be beaten on price   - and our runners continually tell us that they receive so much more on a 'Running Crazy' weekend break. All our 'resort races' offer half board accommodation, and for our 'Big City' races we know all the best value places to eat, drink and have fun. Indeed we book these for our pre-race and after race gatherings, meaning groups and individuals can just sit back, relax, make new running pals and let us do any worrying. No tourist traps for our clients! We know these races and places inside out, and will advise on what to see and do over the weekend, provide directions and maps - all very useful when on a tight timescale. All you have to do is run!

Closing Date
6 weeks before the event, or sooner if "Sold Out" applied to Index page.

We went to Barcelona for the New Year 10k, what a winner- Everything worked like clockwork, organisation, information, and social arrangements.(Managed to celebrate New Year twice. Spanish time in a restaurant, and U.K Time in the Irish Bar) It was the first time we had travelled with "Running Crazy" we found the whole group very welcoming and felt included from the start. The Race is great and little details, like one of the staff looking after your kit at the start and waiting for you at the finish with a drink-alcoholic or not-your choice. Just made it for us. Thanks a lot to those guys.

Catherine Pang - West Midlands
This thank you is overdue!! The Barcelona 10k on New Years Eve was brilliant! The race itself was made stress free by Malcolm's knowledge of the area and by having hotels so close to the start- so no problems with changing or toilet queues etc. I came with my daughter as support this time but would happily travel alone with Running Crazy next time, as the group was very inclusive and friendly, whilst also enabling you to get out and do your own thing. Malcolm and his team were happy to answer any questions and easily contactable throughout. Amazingly, took time out to make sure that we were safe getting back to the hotel on New Year's morning when we left and the party was still in full swing - This service was second to none and very much appreciated - thank you Kipper!!

Melanie Fuller - Holmfirth
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for an amazing New Year in Barcelona! It has to be one of the best New Year celebrations I have ever had (despite the very, very sore feet from dancing in stupidly high heels until the early hours of the morning!). Please let me know as soon as you plan next year's event - Emma, Mick, Nev and me will definitely be joining you!

Julia Armstrong - Eastbourne
Thank you Malcolm, Phil and Kipper, I had the most wonderful time in Barcelona. You looked after me so well - and I ran fast too! You are great - and I loved the rest of the group too - great team spirit. I am already booking up my next trip with you!

Mel - Bristol
Six 'elderly' runners chose Barcelona 'San Silvestre' 10K as their first 'race'. What a brilliant choice it was! Malcolm and his colleagues made everything go smoothly without being too regimented so everyone had a choice of what to do as a group and what to do in smaller units! Excellent! Looking forward to the Running Crazy Amsterdam trip (we love flat routes!!!).

Steven & Jane Lenza - Dumfries, Scotland
Big thanks to Malcolm, Kipper and Phil for the excellent organisation. This was our first time to Barcelona and a very good taster - too much to see so will have to return sometime. Thoroughly enjoyed the race on Hogmany and the much needed drinks later in the evening. Nice to see everyone and hopefully we will meet up again some time. Once again many thanks.

Barbara and Wally Obo = Chester
Many thanks to Malcolm, Kipper and Phil for another wonderful trip to Barcelona & the race on new year's eve was a great start to the festivities, which we all enjoyed. a great team of guys who really take care of you. We'll be going crazy later on this year-- we're addicted.

Steven Haynes - Stockport
As a non-runner (My wife was running) I was made to feel welcome from the start and included in every aspect. Great hotel, fabulous pasta party and a great race ( I know that's good coming from a spectator). Overall fantastic time, thanks Malcolm and the team for a great holiday.

Rob & Pat Heddon - Worthing, West Sussex
Barcelona 10k. This was our first trip/race with Running Crazy. We felt it was very well organised and the 3 staff that were there were very helpful and answered all our questions. We had a fab time and certainly would go with you again and will recommend you to all in our running club. Thank you very much.
