The Weekend:
Torremolinos, just 10 miles East of Malaga, has long been a favourite
for British Holidaymakers. However not many people know of its
excellent Half Marathon in February each year. Some people have
used it as a warm-up for the London marathon, but it is a great
excuse for a fantastic weekend away.

The Race:
The Torremolinos course takes in much of the beach promenade, and the first 7 miles are very flat. Then the course turns in to the country and becomes undulating for the final 6 miles. Good times are possible however, but please be aware that there is a main road at the 6 mile point which the Police are keen to reopen. The time limit for completion is therefore 2 1/2 hours
Accommodation:
‘Running Crazy Ltd’ have secured a 3* Hotel very close to the Start and
Finish area. This is ideal for kit security, as well as showering and
changing facilities. The rooms are comfortable, and you are close to
the entertainment centre too. The beach is just 400 metres away.
The Weather:
The Costa Del Sol claims 300 days of sunshine per year. Last year saw
good conditions, cool and overcast, with sun just after the race. Here
are the figures:
-
average
sunshine hours per day: 7
-
wet
days in a month: 4
-
average
temperatuire: 9-16 degrees celsius
-
humidity: 78% (at 0700 hrs) 70% (at 14.00 hrs)
-
average monthly
rainfall: 0.8"
Entertainment:
Torremolinos is well known for its evening entertainment. There are
loads of bars, cafes, and restaurants spread around town, and even ‘out
of season’ most are open.
Our hotel is located in the centre of town, and as such everything is
within easy reach.
There is a ‘Running Crazy Ltd’ After Race Party just around the corner,
and this goes on late in to the night. Let your hair down after the
efforts of the day.
Groups:
A Half Marathon abroad is a great focus for Clubs or Groups of Runners.
Torremolinos is the perfect venue as the first race on the continent.
Many people will have visited the area for their holidays, and will be
familiar with the set up.
There are discounts available for large groups (20+), but even a group
of just 10, will qualify for an additional prize for the first or last
to finish.
Prices:
Great Value for money – prices start at just £99 for a weekend.
A
typical example is a 3 night stay – the runners pays just £149,
with a non-runner paying just £139 . . . a bargain!
