Budapest International Half Marathon

The Weekend
Budapest has long been known as the 'Pearl of the Danube' . The two great sides to the City, Buda the hilly side with commanding views over Pest, the sprawling conurbation on the flat side of the River Danube. Budapest is a relatively safe city, with 1 in 5 of Hungary's 10 Mill
ion population living here. Approximately in the centre of Europe, half way between the Ural Mountains and the Atlantic Coastline. With the low cost airlines now making it a destination too, more and more Brits are discovering the delights of this great capital.

If you like the idea of a Central European Running Tour, why not join us in Prague, Czech Republic for their 10K the weekend before, and then travel with us by train via a night in Bratislava, Slovakia and on to Budapest, Hungary. Three wonderful Capital Cities and two great races over two weekends!

This is a wonderful race along both banks of the mighty River Danube. Flat, fast and scenic, taking in the Chain Bridge and running past the iconic Hungarian Parliament building, and Margaret Island. Personal Bests are certainly a possibility here, but if you are unconcerned about times, just be happy to take in some of the tremendous sights of this great city. Wonderful support all the way round!

Time Limit: 2.5 hours

Spectators and Supporters:

We know how important spectators and supporters are at these events. We provide a supporters package at no extra charge. We will advise where on the course are the most advantageous spectator positions, and how to get there easily and in time for the race. More often than not we will take you there and join you for a cup of coffee and have a few surprises planned whilst awaiting the first sight of the runners! All our hotels are comfortably furnished with TV and entertainment facilities - many have spas, pools and saunas too
.

Charity Runners:
'Running Crazy' are delighted to welcome runners who are raising sponsorship for registered charities. We know that the great feeling of accomplishment when completing the race, feels even better when you are helping others in to the bargain! See our Run for Charity link to choose a charity that you can help. Many charities listed there will provide special runners packs including sponsorship forms and tips, and also charity running vests. Just contact them with your details and tell them you intend to run with 'Running Crazy' on their behalf. In addition we will provide you with a 'Running Crazy' Certificate confirming your achievement and result, and also a special commemorative prize. Just specify the charity name in your 'Application'.

Accommodation:
'Running Crazy' have secured 3* Hotel Accommodation on a Bed & Breakfast basis, at hotels close to the Start/Finish area. This is ideal for pre-race preparations (No queuing at the portable toilet for you) & security of kit, but also handy for showering and changing after the race - if you haven't been in the 'thermal bath' that is! The hotel is located close to the Metro Line/Tram Line for your sightseeing days. Some transportation tickets will be provided. In addition 'Running Crazy Ltd' have found a wonderful and cheap Hungarian Café just around the corner from the hotel, where you can eat a 3 course meal, and have a couple of pints/wines, all for under £8! Evening meals not a problem then.

The Weather:
The weather can be varied at this time in central Europe. Here are the figures:-

  • average sunshine hours per day:  6
  • wet days in a month:  12
  • average temperatuire:  13 to 18 degrees celsius
  • average monthly rainfall:  1.2"

Entertainment:
Budapest has long been a top 10 city for tourists. Therefore there is plenty to do. You must visit the 'Fishermens Bastion', the Parliament, Royal Castle, Chain Bridge Opera House, the Buda Citadella. Take in the panoramic view of Pest from Buda, or from St Stephens Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika). Take a sightseeing tour down the Danube on a Riverboat, how about a training run around Maragaret's Island. You won't get tired of Budapest.

Groups:
This weekend offers a great opportunity for Clubs, or training partners to get together. It may also make the travelling more convenient and enjoyable too. There are discounts for large groups (20+), but even a group of just 10 will qualify for an additional prize for the first or last to finish (you choose).

Prices
Our all inclusive prices are extremely competitive - from as little as just £149 for the weekend - we know we cannot be beaten on price   - and our runners continually tell us that they receive so much more on a 'Running Crazy' weekend break. All our 'resort races' offer half board accommodation, and for our 'Big City' races we know all the best value places to eat, drink and have fun. Indeed we book these for our pre-race and after race gatherings, meaning groups and individuals can just sit back, relax, make new running pals and let us do any worrying. No tourist traps for our clients! We know these races and places inside out, and will advise on what to see and do over the weekend, provide directions and maps - all very useful when on a tight timescale. All you have to do is run!

Closing Date
6 weeks before the event, or sooner if "Sold Out" applied to Index page.

BUDAPEST HALF MARATHON - TESTIMONIALS

Tom Johnson - Bushfield Joggers
On behalf of all at Bushfield Joggers, a massive thankyou to all the Running Crazy team for making the Budapest half marathon one of the most enjoyable and positive running experiences our club has had. The guys in green worked relentlessly to ensure we were safe, comfortable and that everyone enjoyed themselves. I highly recommend this friendly, well established service to any runner of any ability. Whether you are part of a large group or travelling alone, you can guarantee you will be met with a smile and that the only thing you need worry about during your stay is whether your laces are tied tight enough on the day. Thanks again Running Crazy, Bushfield Joggers will see you in Prague.

Myles - Belfast, Northern Ireland
The Budapest half marathon was a great success and very well organised. I would definitely recommend this group and hope to run again with them in the future. I felt we were well catered for. Thank you.

Heather Clanfield and Gill Salter - Fittleworth Flyers
A big thank you for all your help, kindness and support at the Budapest Half Marathon. We had a great time and will be encouraging friends and club mates to use you in the future as well as coming with you again ourselves.

Ross Weston - Telford
Can't recommend one of Malcolm's trips highly enough, met us at the airport, looked after us when we couldn't exchange our money and took us to some fine pubs. Looking forward to the next encounter.

Simon Burrell - Richmond
Malcolm and the team pulled it off again at Budapest! Same great attention to detail. What you get with these tours is a low stress, well organised weekend with a race in the middle of it. You don't have to worry about race entries, the hotel is always a good standard and excellently located from the race start/finish and the guys pick you up and drop you off from the airport. What's more, Malcolm and his helpers are fantastically attentive - nothing is too much trouble and they are really good fun. You also get to meet like-minded people and share war stories. We can't recommend these guys highly enough - we are Running Crazy converts - really looking forward to Riga.
